Cincinnati, Ohio and Montvale, New Jersey — The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting (EFWA) provides scholarships and mentoring, supporting equitable access to education and the advancement of women who are pursuing careers in accounting.
EFWA annually awards scholarships to women who are pursuing accounting degrees. Whether pursuing an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree the Foundation is able to provide financial support while empowering and encouraging women to pursue a career in accounting.
This year, EFWA received an unprecedented number of applications from aspiring female accountants across the country. The selection process was rigorous.
EFWA is delighted to recognize the following outstanding individuals as EFWA 2024 scholarship recipients:
• Natasha Riley attending Southern New Hampshire University from Stoughton, MA
• Tiandra Threat attending Virginia Commonwealth University from North Chesterfield, VA
• Amber Cox attending Texas A&M from Richmond, TX
• Kimberly Watts attending Southern New Hampshire University from Wyomissing, PA
• Angela Blair attending Lake Land College from Charleston, IL received the American Dream Scholarship
• Rebekha Bokrand attending Texas Tech University from Lubbock, TX received the Laurels Fund Scholarship
• Crystal Walls attending Southern New Hampshire University from Cheyenne, WY received a two-year Women-In-Need Scholarship
• Christina Hudak attending Southern New Hampshire University from Penn, PA received a two-year Women-In-Transition Scholarship
• JerDee Burnett attending Western Governors University from Ogden, UT received year two of a Women-In-Need Scholarship
Each recipient receives a monetary award along with a mentor and networking support.
EFWA in partnership with IMA (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession, provided three IMA scholarships, two undergraduate and one graduate to women in accounting who are the primary source of support for themselves and their families. Erica H. who will be attending Oregon State University and Kristine M. who will be attending Montana State University Billings received the undergraduate scholarships and Latrice Lewis who is attending Metropolitan State University of Denver received the graduate scholarship. All three recipients receive a monetary award along with member benefits from IMA, including a free student membership for three years, and the waiver of CMA (Certified Management Accountant) entrance and exam fees.
EFWA is excited to be able to continue to fulfill our mission of providing scholarships and mentoring in our pursuit of the advancement of women who are pursuing careers in accounting, something we’ve been doing for nearly 60 years. Our scholarships are sometimes the very piece of the puzzle that allow these women’s dreams to become a reality,” said Alexandra Miller, CPA, president of EFWA.
Holly Bacon, a 2023 scholarship recipient, is pursuing her dream of earning a degree and recently shared, “I am grateful for the opportunity the scholarship has provided me. This has made a real difference in my life.”
